I found some of the statistics in this infographic surprising, and some entertaining, but there is no question Farmville is one of the largest social trends over the past decade.

While making my lunch this morning, I noticed the top of my Smucker’s Strawberry Jelly jar had the Smucker’s web address on it.  Despite making hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches over the past few years, I’ve never noticed the website on the lid.  The .com advertising blends in nicely with the rest of the packaging and kudos to Smucker’s for creating subtle cross-platform advertising.

Remember when you were little, watching TV, and a commercial came on for some sort of junk food that had cool packaging, an awesome logo or mascot and it looked delicious?  For me, that was Fruit by the Foot.  What was yours?
Turns out the health food industry is starting to notice that children gravitate towards certain foods due to how they are presented.  Late last week, the carrot industry debuted their new advertising campaign.  With edgy music, new packaging and a strong social media presence, the carrot industry is hoping that their food becomes the next junk food.

A mixture of color, done right, can enhance a brand’s interest.
The above photo is the outside wall of the Science Factory in Eugene, Oregon, which lies right next to the University of Oregon’s football stadium.  Next to the immense football stadium, it’d be easy for this museum to get lost in the shuffle, but with it’s multi-colored panels, it sticks out and draws attention.
HERE is a picture of the whole building.

Growing up, there was a 76 gas station in the downtown where I lived.  I loved the gas station.  I loved how the big, orange 76 ball, that posed as their sign, hovered above the landscape.  I loved the brightness of the station (orange and blue) and I encouraged my parents to fill up their car there because of that.  However, the 76 station went out of business before I reached high school, and since then, I had yet to see another.
Earlier this summer, while traveling out west, I ran across a string of 76 stations in Oregon.  Seeing the circular, orange logo, a rush of childhood nostalgia splashed over me, and I knew I had to take a photo of the 76 logo.
I love the 76 logo.  It’s simple, clean, bright and memorable.  It certainly stands out above many of the other gas station logos.  Simplicity in logo design is something I believe in.  To me, the simpler the better, and the 76 logo is the perfect example.
